This is the Bourbon Fettucine Gumi Premium Miyagi Strawberry Blend, featuring a blend of purée from two strawberry varieties — Nikoniko Berry and Mouikko — produced at JR Fruit Park Sendai Arahama, in an area devastated by the Great East Japan Earthquake. Arahama is Tōhoku’s largest experiential tourist farm, with the aim of supporting recovery from the disaster and creating new vibrancy in the area. Throughout the year, visitors can enjoy picking over 150 varieties of fruits and vegetables across eight different categories.
Nikoniko Berry is an original strawberry variety from Miyagi Prefecture, characterised by its balance of sweetness and acidity, cone shape and vibrant red colour when cut. Mouikko is another original variety from Miyagi Prefecture, characterised by its clean, refreshing sweetness.
Each gummy measured 4.5 × 1.2 × 0.5 cm, with a red-pink hue coated in coarse sour crystals. Aroma opened with a rich sweet-tart strawberry aroma.
Initial contact delivered a firm, al dente bite, while the sour crystal coating provided an immediate crunch and rough surface texture. After a few chews, the initial sourness transitioned into the strawberry’s clean, refreshing sweetness through the mid-palate. Towards the finish, a juicy tartness emerged, this time with greater depth from the strawberry flavour. The gentle crunch of the sour crystals persisted through the finish, resolving into a good balance of clean sweetness and juicy acidity with a fresh strawberry profile. Aftertaste carried lingering sweet-tart strawberry notes.
Overall, a strawberry gummy with a rising flavour progression and integrated textural development, resulting in a firm, crunchy and juicy profile with a clean balance of sweetness and acidity.
