This is the Mango Camellia Oolong Tea ($9.50; less ice, 50% sugar) from ChaPanda, featuring camellia oolong tea, mango and orange.
The beverage presented with a translucent orange hue, with mango purée settled at the base and a wedge of orange floating at the top.
Initial contact delivered an almost heady floral presence from the camellia, accompanied by refreshing sweetness. The tea character itself was barely detectable, with no astringency or bitterness; it contributed only a faint floral quality that sat in the background rather than forming a defined tea backbone. Through the mid-palate, flat slivers of jelly entered with a slippery, soft and bouncy texture, providing early structural contrast while carrying the mango and camellia profile through the sip. Orange contributed a complementary acidity and contrasting citrus character that lifted the sweet floral fruit profile.
By the middle of the beverage, however, the initial floral vibrancy of the camellia had receded almost entirely. Despite shaking before drinking, the already subtle tea presence became even less perceptible, with the floral note appearing concentrated in the lower portion of the beverage rather than remaining integrated throughout, leaving the later sips comparatively subdued.
Overall, a fruit tea with a layered opening but diminishing flavour trajectory and useful textural contrast, resulting in a structurally interesting drink whose tea component remained minimal and primarily floral in character.
