This is the Get Baked x Messina Bertha Classic. In August–September 2026, Gelato Messina collaborated with the cult-status UK bakery brand Get Baked to bring its 24-layer “Bertha” chocolate cake to Australia.
A single slice ($40.00) weighed 900 g and featured twelve layers of dark chocolate cake, sandwiched with twelve layers of single-origin Colombian milk (15%) and dark chocolate (16%) ganache.
The cake was dense and rich, with alternating layers of dark chocolate sponge and thick chocolate ganache. The sponge was moist with a fine crumb, while the ganache was creamy and mousse-like, softening slightly with heat on the palate. The chocolate flavour remained strong throughout, with little sweetness to offset its intensity. The richness accumulated quickly, with about an eighth of the cake sufficient for one sitting. The quality of the chocolate components was evident across each layer, making the cake particularly concentrated rather than merely sweet.
Overall, a layered chocolate cake with a dense, progressively richer texture and persistent dark chocolate flavour, resulting in a highly concentrated and decadent finish.
