This is the Wintermelon Premium Soy Drink ($5.80) from Hòa Hưng Tofu. It featured a soy drink with wintermelon flavour and toppings of popping water chestnut and white pearls.
The beverage had an opaque, off-white hue with the toppings settled at the base. When sipped chilled, the presence of wintermelon was subtle but notable, adding a candied, nutty depth to the beany notes of the soy milk. This combination offset the distinct molasses sweetness found in the honeydew version, while the soy base contributed a thick and creamy texture, remaining smooth despite the high level of soy solids. The popping water chestnut added an interesting but somewhat unwelcome texture, with a mushy paste-like consistency before reaching the crunch of the water chestnut itself. In contrast, the white pearls provided a thoroughly enjoyable bouncy texture. Overall, while we appreciated the creamy smoothness of the beverage, we wouldn’t choose it over the more immediately satisfying regular soy drink available in 2 L bottles.
