Morinaga Hi-Chew Tōhoku Apple

This is the Morinaga Hi-Chew Tōhoku Apple, made using juice from apples grown in Aomori Prefecture.

Each box contained 5 sticks, available in two package designs — one with a white background and another with a pink background. Each stick held 12 pieces.

The gummies were rectangular, measuring 2.5 x 1.5 x 1.0 cm, with a pastel yellow exterior, a white interior, and a sweet Fuji apple aroma.

On tasting, the smooth surface gave way to a soft, pliable chew that did not cling to the teeth. The apple flavour appeared instantly, beginning with a rounded sweetness before deepening into a richer flavour with successive chews. Mid-bite, a touch of juicy acidity emerged, carrying the impression of freshly pressed apple juice through to the finish. The flavour was strongly evocative of Fuji apples — characterised by their honeyed sweetness and gentle acidity — the signature variety of Aomori, Japan’s apple capital.

Overall, a well-executed homage to Aomori’s Fuji apples, balancing honeyed sweetness with a refreshing hint of tartness.

This Morinaga Hi-Chew Tōhoku Apple contained 276 g (5 sticks x 12 pieces) . It was produced in Japan and purchased in Aomori, Japan in 2024.
