Nippon Yell Dried Fruit Ehime Iyokan

This is the Nippon Yell Dried Fruit Ehime Iyokan, made from the peel and pulp of iyokan grown in Ehime Prefecture, soaked in honey and dried.

The pieces of peel varied in length from 3–4 cm, with an average width of 2 mm and thickness of 3 mm. Each had a dark brown hue, was coated in sugar, and dry to the touch. The pulp segments, with membranes removed, measured approximately 3 x 2 x 0.5 cm, with a glossy appearance and a moist texture. The overall aroma was mild and sweet but lacked distinctiveness.

On tasting, the peel began with a pronounced citric sharpness before softening on the tongue, offering a rich citrusy sweetness with a mellow bitterness in the finish. Compared to other dried peel varieties in this series, the moisture content was noticeably higher, contributing to a melting mouthfeel. A subtle tingling note from citrus oils lingered at the back of the palate. The pulp was similarly juicy in texture and offered a fresh, clean sweetness without fibrous interference. The absence of the membrane allowed for a smooth texture, and a light citrus tang complemented the natural fruit aroma that developed progressively across the palate. The overall mouthfeel was notably wetter than that of typical Western dried fruits such as apricots, though texturally adjacent.

It was a well-balanced, juicier dried citrus snack with mellow bitterness and nuanced acidity—refined and worth repurchasing.
