Kreamu Gelato opened in Cabramatta in late 2024, specialising in flavours inspired by the Vietnamese palate. With a second store launching in Marrickville in early 2025, it was the perfect time to try it out.

Their menu features staple Vietnamese flavours, priced similarly to other specialty gelaterias such as Kirin Ice Bar (East Asian flavours) and Kariton Sorbetes (Filipino flavours).

Top: Ambarella & Apricot
This was a tan-hued gelato with small cubes of dried apricot, providing a dominant apricot flavour and enjoyable chewy texture. The ambarella introduced a fresher floral and tropical twist, with a hint of acidity that brightened the musky depth of the dried apricot.
Middle: Soursop & Butterfly Pea
This was a striking purple-lilac gelato with tasty cubes of actual soursop flesh, adding a pleasant texture and bursts of intensified soursop flavour. The gelato itself was smooth and creamy, with a delightful soursop presence—its slightly tarter, sweet custard apple-like notes shining through beautifully.
Base (not shown): Sweet Corn
This had a pale yellow gelato base with visible corn kernels, delivering a bold corn flavour. The gelato itself had a more mellow creamed corn flavour, making for a delightful and unique offering in Sydney’s gelato scene. However, it did not quite reach the same intensity as the version from Hirosaki.

Top: Sugarcane & Calamansi
The khaki-hued gelato base featured bits of crushed peanuts throughout. The calamansi delivered a bright, tangy citrus flavour, while the sugarcane added a grassy sweetness that deepened the overall profile. The peanuts provided a pleasant crunch, though caramelisation would have enhanced their texture and flavour.
Middle: Soursop & Tamarind
With a creamy-hued base, this gelato contained generous chunks of soursop flesh, adding a distinct texture and mouthfeel. The tamarind served to amplify the soursop’s natural sweet-sour balance, heightening its tangy brightness and complementing its caramel and apricot-like sweetness.
Base: Jackfruit
This pale yellow gelato had visible flecks of jackfruit throughout, offering a bold and intense tropical flavour. Its taste resembled a cross between banana and pineapple, making it the most vibrant and easily our favourite of the three.

Coconut Float ($7.50), coconut water with pandan cold foam.
This was refreshing, with a very restrained sweetness that relied on the natural sweetness of the coconut water. The coconut water contributed its signature nutty presence and a lightly sweet, slightly savoury electrolyte-like quality. This savoury note was further enhanced by the pandan cold foam, which did not resemble a cheese foam. Instead, it added a delicate grassy vanilla flavour and creamy texture that complemented the drink beautifully.

Kreamu Gelato delivered a unique and well-executed take on Vietnamese-inspired gelato and beverages, with thoughtfully balanced flavours and textures that stood out in Sydney’s dessert scene.
