Dunkin’, Auckland

This is Dunkin’, a doughnut chain focused on filled, glazed and cake-style doughnuts alongside coffee beverages.

Pineapple Filled Classic ($4.00)

Initial contact delivered a light dough that, while not particularly tender or yeast-driven, provided sufficient structural integrity and a clean bite through to the filling. The pineapple filling immediately established a tangy sweet-tart profile, with visible flecks of pineapple contributing a more natural fruit character than a standard smooth jam filling. Through the mid-palate, the pineapple developed further, balancing the sweetness of the external sugar coating with bright acidity. The filling remained the dominant component, while the dough largely functioned as a neutral carrier. The finish resolved into lingering pineapple sweetness and gentle tartness, preventing the doughnut from becoming overly sugary.

Donut Holes ($4.00 for 6  pieces; top to bottom: strawberry filled, chocolate glazed, bavarian filled)

Initial contact delivered a more tender dough than the Classic range, with the smaller format creating a higher filling-to-dough ratio and allowing the fillings to play a greater role in the overall experience. Through the mid-palate, performance varied by flavour. The Bavarian filling was the strongest of the range, providing smooth, creamy custard richness that integrated well with the soft dough. The strawberry filling offered sweetness but lacked the tanginess and gooey texture needed to create a convincing fruit profile. The chocolate variant delivered a confectionery-like sweetness that recalled a cake pop more than a traditional chocolate doughnut. The finish resolved into lingering sweetness across all variants, though the Bavarian filling provided the most complete and balanced conclusion. While the smaller format improved moisture and flavour concentration, the dough itself still tended towards dryness when separated from the fillings.

Overall, a doughnut chain defined by filling-centred products and approachable sweetness, strongest where creamy or fruit fillings provide sufficient contrast to the relatively dry dough.
