This is Fermento Bakery, a sister venue to Baked in Berrima, located in Bowral.
Cinnamon Scroll ($8.50)
We had previously tried this item at their original Berrima location in 2022, where it received a rather poor review. Thankfully, this rendition had improved considerably, with none of the salty, oily mouthfeel from the butter that had plagued the previous version. It tasted rich and buttery without becoming excessively greasy, while a generous amount of well-balanced cinnamon sugar carried the cinnamon flavour through the scroll.
Unfortunately, several of the more interesting items from the earlier range, such as the sfogliatella, appeared to have been replaced by more mainstream pastries including bombolinis, focaccia and sourdough.
Overall, Fermento Bakery was defined by improved execution of familiar baked goods, with the cinnamon scroll now substantially better balanced than the earlier Berrima rendition. The pastry selection, however, appeared less distinctive than the range previously available.
