This is Aroishi, a hole-in-the-wall takeaway store described as where ‘Japan meets Thailand’, opening in early October 2026.

The menu focuses on Thai-style street food snacks, including sweetmelts, pancakes and egg puffs, alongside matcha-based beverages.

Thai Egg Puffs with Pandan Custard ($9.00 for 12 pieces; $0.50 discount for cash payment)
The egg puffs measured approximately 3 cm in diameter. Although ordered as 12 pieces, the serving contained 15. After cooling completely without a lid, the puffs retained crisp edges around a tender, moist cake-like interior. The molten pandan custard provided a gooey centre, contrasting with the firmer exterior. They could also be reheated in an air fryer for 3 minutes at 180°C.

Pandan Sweetmelt with Young Coconut ($9.00 for 12 pieces; $0.50 discount for cash payment)
The sweetmelts had a soft, tender texture resembling steamed tapioca starch cakes common across Southeast Asia, without developing a crisp exterior. Pandan provided a bold, vibrant flavour, while pieces of young coconut introduced a complementary crunch and nuttiness. Although the order was for 12 pieces, it included an additional four unfilled sweetmelts. These had a smoother texture than the filled versions, offering a subtle variation within the same order.

Overall, Aroishi’s Thai-style street food snacks were defined by the combination of pandan flavour and contrasting textures, with each item offering a different interpretation of the same core ingredient. The egg puffs stood out for their crisp edges and molten custard centres, while the sweetmelts offered a softer, more delicate texture complemented by the crunch of young coconut. Both were worth trying for their distinct textural qualities and generous serving counts.
Aroishi is located at G4, 683–689 George St, Haymarket NSW 2000.
