The combination of hot cakes with maple syrup and butter is one of my favourite comfort foods. Generally, the more syrup and butter, the more comforting. This Lipton Maple Tea is recreates this in liquid form.
The tea is a tea bagged black tea fannings scented with maple.
Steeped for 2 minutes in 200 mL of water at 85ºC, the infusion was a clear deep red brown colour with a fragrant maple aroma. Served hot, the bitterness of the black tea overwhelms the more delicate maple notes. That’s to be expected, though, as the tea was recommended served with milk.
Prepared with about 10 mL of milk and 5 g of brown sugar, the bold bitterness of the black tea is mellowed. Served hot, the smooth notes of black milk tea came through before a fragrant maple flavour developed in the body for a rounded flavour that leaves a clean aftertaste. The addition of milk and sugar (or maple syrup would’ve been more fitting) brought out the delicate almost floral, vanilla notes of the maple that are dominated by the black tea served black.
This box of Lipton Maple Tea contained 12 tea bags. It was packed in Japan and purchased in Nagoya, Japan in 2014.
