This Iwata Suzume no Tamago is the last in the Kumamoto Suprise series. The name translates literally to ‘sparrow eggs’, which these traditional peanut crackers were said to resemble. The crackers were made by roasting peanuts coated with rice flour and flavoured with soy sauce and seaweed.
There are 13 individually sealed bags each with 12 peanut crackers. Three designs featuring Kumamon feature on the bags.
These crackers smell of soy sauce. Upon tasting, the savoury flavour of soy sauce came through before the rice cracker shell adds an immensely crisp texture ahead of the crunch and nuttiness of the roasted peanut in the centre. As you continue to crunch through the peanut and the cracker, the umami notes from the seaweed attached to the shell came through to create a moreish snack. It’s just as well that these come packaged individually as we find ourselves constantly reaching for more.
This Iwata Suzume no Tamago contained 13 individually sealed bags. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Tōkyō, Japan in 2018.
