This Tottori 20th Century Pears Jelly is the last of the snacks we picked up from the Local Food Fair held in the Tōkyō Metropolitan Government Building in February 2018. Tottori Prefecture is famous for their 20th Century Pears – we’d tried the nashi cakes previously – and these jellies use the juice of those pears.
The jellies are individually sealed in clear plastic cups.
Served chilled, the jelly is soft and wobbly with a melt-in-your-mouth texture – it’s not a konjac based jelly so it’s not firm and doesn’t hold its shape once outside the jelly cup. The notes of nashi pear are mellow to start and build in intensity as the jelly dissolves to a pleasant sweetness and light acidity that recalled the brightness and clear sweetness of ripe nashi pears. The jelly leaves no aftertaste despite the strong flavour in the body.
This Tottori 20th Century Pears Jelly contained 265 g or 12 pieces of 22 g each. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Tōkyō, Japan in 2018.
