This is the Nongshim Bulgogi Flavour Hot Pot Noodle. Bulgogi is a Korean dish consisting of thin, marinated meat slices, predominantly beef, charred on a grill or stovetop griddle. The marinade commonly contains a mix of soy sauce, brown sugar, Asian pear, garlic, ginger, ground black pepper, and sesame oil, resulting in a subtly salty, delicately sweet, and nuttily savoury flavour.

The noodles could be prepared either as a dry or soup-based dish. For the dry variant, the noodles were boiled in 500 mL of water along with the flakes, cooked for 2 minutes, then drained and combined with the soup base. On the other hand, for the wet version, the noodles and flakes underwent a 3.5-minute boil in 300 mL of water, followed by mixing with the soup base.

The noodles had a relatively unremarkable soy sauce aroma. The flavour profile was predominantly soy sauce, although it lacked a sense of complexity or aromatic richness with the black pepper contributing a somewhat single-noted lingering warmth. The promised bulgogi flavour was missing the customary sweetness inherent to this Korean dish. The ‘beef’ pieces, constructed from soy protein, failed to replicate genuine beef flavour or texture resulting in a noticeable absence of beefy flavour throughout the sauce base. Among the elements, the noodles stood out—springy and effective in carrying the sauce. Overall, the sauce remained rather ordinary, making these noodles not worth repurchasing.
