This is the Injeolmi Latte (iced, $7.00, +$1.00 for large) from Siroo Rice Cake Cafe. The drink consisted of iced coffee sandwiched between layers of injeolmi cream at the bottom and top, dusted with additional injeolmi powder, and served with a cube of injeolmi tteok.
When tasted before mixing, the iced latte itself had an aromatic richness and moderate bitterness characteristic of quality coffee. The injeolmi cream, thick with a warm nutty undertone, shared a similar consistency to the sesame latte from Yeonnam Bangagan. Upon mixing the cream into the coffee, the roasted soy bean enhanced the natural nutty notes of the coffee, while also introducing a subtle sweetness that balanced any lingering bitterness in the coffee. The accompanying injeolmi tteok was firm and chewy, though perhaps slightly firmer than our preference for mochi.
We would be intrigued to return for the black sesame latte to gauge whether the richer nuttiness would be more pronounced and comparable to the offering from Yeonnam Bangagan. As it stands, this injeolmi version is worth repurchasing.
This Injeolmi Latte was purchased from Siroo Rice Cake Cafe at Shop 2, 38-40 Railway Parade, Burwood NSW 2134 in May 2024.
