Coles Kitchen Lasagne Spring Rolls

This is the Coles Kitchen Beef Lasagne Spring Rolls, a fusion of the classic Italian dish wrapped in a spring roll pancake. The filling consisted of pasta pieces in béchamel and Bolognese sauce, encased in a light, crisp pastry. The composition was 50% spring roll pancake and 49% beef lasagne mixture, which included 10% parmesan, 8% cheddar, and 30% Bolognese sauce (containing 27% beef mince), along with 15% pasta.

Each box contained six pieces, each measuring approximately 7 cm in length and 2 cm in diameter. Cooked from frozen in an air fryer, they became golden brown and crisp in 9 minutes.

On tasting, the pastry had a light, egg roll-like texture—more akin to the delicate, flaky sweet egg rolls found in tins rather than the denser skins of traditional Chinese spring rolls. This crisp exterior gave way to a soft lasagne-inspired interior. The pasta pieces retained an al dente texture, denser than the pastry but still tender. The béchamel and Bolognese sauce contributed a mild, creamy tomato presence with minimal vegetable content, seasoned with garlic and onion. However, the Bolognese sauce lacked depth, with neither the richness of tomato nor the robustness of beef standing out against the different textures.

While an interesting fusion and a fun appetiser, the overall execution fell short, making it unlikely to be repurchased.

This Coles Kitchen Lasagne Spring Rolls contained 240 g (6 pieces). It was produced in Australia and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2025.
