This is the Saongwon Seafood Pancake, a frozen haemul pajeon containing squid, shrimp, spring onions and carrots.

Each package contained a single pancake measuring approximately 15 cm in diameter. Preparation involved pan-frying with oil over medium heat for around five minutes until golden brown and crisp. Air frying produced noticeably weaker results.

Initial contact delivered a crisp exterior that gave way to a moist and chewy interior. Visible pieces of squid and dried shrimp were distributed throughout the pancake alongside a generous amount of spring onion, immediately establishing a savoury seafood profile.
Through the mid-palate, the seafood flavour continued to develop, supported by the sweetness of the vegetables and the aromatic lift of the spring onions. While the filling components were well represented, the centre retained more moisture than ideal, resulting in the batter component becoming somewhat overemphasised. This reduced the contrast between the crisp exterior and the interior structure.
Towards the finish, the seafood notes remained prominent, with the squid and shrimp contributing lingering savoury depth. Aftertaste carried savoury seafood notes alongside light fried richness and spring onion aromatics.
Overall, a frozen seafood pancake with a rising flavour progression and moderately integrated textural development, resulting in a satisfying seafood-forward profile despite some textural imbalance. Strong seafood flavour and generous inclusions supported the product, though a drier interior would have improved overall cohesion.
This Saongwon Seafood Pancake contained 180 g. It was produced in South Korea and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2026.
