Franquette Creperie, Bowral

This is Franquette Creperie, a contemporary creperie serving savoury buckwheat galettes and sweet crêpes.

Irène ($23.00)

The galette featured ham, cheese, egg, mushrooms and tomato compote. The edges delivered caramelised, buttery and savoury crispness, with the richness of French butter evident throughout. This was contrasted by the stretchy, gooey egg and cheese, savoury ham and earthy mushroom umami, while the tomato compote added brightness. The combination was deeply satisfying and well executed.

Forêt Noire ($21.00)

The crêpe featured brownie, berry coulis, cherry sorbet, whipped cream, chocolate sauce and cherries. Essentially a Black Forest-inspired combination, the crêpe was soft in contrast to the galette. Dark chocolate and berry coulis formed a classic pairing, rich and slightly tart, while dark Morello cherries added brightness and light crunch from the fresh fruit flesh. The cherry sorbet was particularly enjoyable for its bright, concentrated cherry flavour, distinct from the cherry flavours typically encountered at gelaterias. Whipped cream was pleasant in moderation but excessive in quantity, with only a small amount needed to complement the other components. Still, it was a combination worth having again.

Overall, the crepes were defined by rich, well-integrated flavour combinations and strong textural contrasts, with the savoury galette particularly well executed through its crisp, buttery edges and cohesive balance of savoury and bright elements.

Franquette Creperie is located at 329 Bong Bong St, Bowral NSW 2576.
