Calbee Kappa Ebisen Shiroebi

This is the Calbee Kappa Ebisen Shiroebi, part of Calbee’s seasonal Ebisen series, which features whole shrimp selected by season: amaebi for winter, sakuraebi for spring, and shiroebi for summer.

The crackers measured approximately 5 mm in diameter and varied in length between 5–5.5 cm. Pale beige in colour and dusted with a fine white seasoning, they carried only a faint shrimp aroma.

On tasting, the salted seasoning released a gentle savoury note that quickly gave way to the light, crisp texture of the cracker. The shiroebi imparted a subtle oceanic flavour with a clean, restrained sweetness that echoed the delicacy of the shrimp itself. The shrimp flavour was even more muted than the sakuraebi variant, which in turn had been lighter than the amaebi, making this the most delicate in the series. Despite this, the flavour was well-articulated and quietly satisfying. The finish was marked by a pleasant melt-in-the-mouth quality, with a lingering aftertaste of mellow shrimp that subtly encouraged further snacking.

This Calbee Kappa Ebisen Shiroebi contained 50 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2025.
