Maesil-cha is a Korean tea made from green plum, also known as ume in Japan. I’m a huge fan of the sweet-sour notes of the fruit, so was delighted to find this Woongjin Green Plum Juice in the Korean supermarket.
The drink was a transparent golden brown colour with a fragrant sweet-sour nose of green plum. Consumed chilled, an initial sweetness developed with the characteristic acidity of ume and the richness peaking towards the end of the sip ahead of a clean finish. The sour notes are distinct — but less prominent than the Ousu no Sato Ume Sarari — while the sweetness is balanced and not cloying, and together with the absence of any lingering aftertaste, makes for a refreshing drink.
This Woongjin Green Plum Juice contained 1.5 L. It was produced in South Korea and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2020.
