This is the ChaHalo Black Milk Tea Frappe ($8.80, no ice, less sugar), featuring a black milk tea base topped with whipped cream and crushed caramelised hazelnut.
The frappe component, combining the whipped cream with caramelised hazelnut, offered a pleasant interplay between the light savouriness and crunch of the nuts against the airy cream. This made for an engaging introduction to the drink; however, once the hazelnut pieces were gone, the whipped cream alone became somewhat monotonous, prompting a shift toward the beverage beneath. When consumed chilled, the black milk tea presented a robust yet smooth flavour that held its integrity even when the whipped cream was mixed in, resulting in a creamier texture and subtle notes of warm vanilla. The whipped cream also continued to lend a fragrant aroma ahead of each sip, while the tea concluded with a faint, lingering astringency and clean finish.
Overall, enjoyable as a dessert novelty and reminiscent of the jasmine milk tea and caramelised pecan version from Molly Tea, yet not distinctive enough to warrant a return visit.
