This is the Campbell’s Country Ladle Hearty Beef & Vegetable. It contained at least 46% beef stock, 37% vegetables (potato, carrot, tomato purée, Great Northern beans, green beens, peas, sweet corn and spinach) and 7% beef.
The soup had an orange-brown hue, generously dotted with a variety of vegetables. It had a liquid consistency, unlike the thicker ‘chunky’ soups, and carried a hearty aroma of beef stock. Upon tasting, the flavour was somewhat bland and lacked depth in its savouriness, but a spoonful of MSG easily remedied this. The potato and carrot bits were plentiful and tender, though a more generous portion of beef would have been appreciated. Overall, despite needing a tweak with MSG, we enjoyed the soup for its predominant beef flavour, which was a refreshing change from the often one-note tomato flavour in many canned soups.
