The popcorn presented with irregular butterfly-style kernels, the white corn base unevenly coated in a mixture of caramelised sugar and fine salt. The coating appeared dry at first contact, but rapidly developed slight tackiness on exposure to air as ambient moisture softened the sugar layer. Aroma opened with a combined sweet-saline note, underpinned by toasted corn.
Initial contact delivered a distinct contrast in texture, with the sugar-coated exterior producing a crisp, brittle crunch that sat against the more naturally tender fracture of the popped corn core. Through the mid-palate, the sweet–salty interplay became more defined, with sweetness amplifying the roasted corn character while salt sharpened and lifted the grain base. As a result, the sweetness functioned more as a surface contrast rather than a layered flavour foundation, limiting depth and persistence. Towards the finish, reduced coating density contributed to lower stickiness than expected, with minimal residual adhesion on the fingers or palate.
Overall, a kettle corn with a sweet–salty contrast-driven flavour progression and a light coating-to-crisp kernel textural development, resulting in a clean but comparatively shallow caramel expression.
