This is the DJ&A Shiitake Mushroom Crisps.
Each 225 g bag contained about 75% mushrooms, made from approximately 630 g of fresh shiitake mushrooms. The mushrooms were reportedly cooked at a lower temperature in vegetable oil to ‘preserve the natural mushroom goodness and delicious taste’. They varied in size, ranging from about 1.5 to 4 cm in diameter, and were seasoned with maltose, sea salt, yeast extract, spices, onion, garlic, and natural flavour.
The crisps had a savoury garlic and onion aroma. Upon tasting, they delivered a satisfying crunch, reminiscent of thick-cut potato chips, contrasting with the lighter texture typically found in sliced shiitake crisps. The exterior seasoning provided a well-balanced savoury, onion-garlic flavour without overwhelming the palate, even on smaller pieces. The unseasoned interior, coupled with the mushroom’s natural capacity to absorb flavours, contributed to this balance. The inherent earthy flavour of the mushrooms still came through, adding a pleasant depth, without any aftertaste. Overall, these were highly enjoyable and satisfying shiitake mushroom crisps, definitely worth repurchasing.
