This is the Yuzu Matcha Latte ($7.90, fixed ice smoothie, regular sweetness) from A³ Cafe, built on a base of red pomelo juice vesicles, topped with a blended milk and yuzu marmalade smoothie, and finished with matcha foam.
The drink presented with a distinct layered appearance: a ruby-red base of pomelo, bleeding slightly into a milky white middle layer flecked with yellow from the yuzu marmalade, and capped with a green matcha foam.
When consumed chilled, the mouthfeel was very thick, which quickly proved impractical with the paper straw, softening and collapsing a few sips in. The yuzu component delivered a clear citrus presence, though the smoothie itself leaned heavily milky, muting the brightness one would expect. The red pomelo was the standout, providing welcome texture and bursts of citrus acidity that the smoothie otherwise lacked. The matcha foam was largely decorative rather than functional. The thickness of the drink made it difficult to incorporate, and tasted on its own, the matcha was faint, overtaken by pronounced dairy notes more reminiscent of whipped cream than the lighter more intensely flavoured foams seen at stores such as Molly Tea, Chahalo, or Kuki.
Overall, a drink that looks appealing but falls short in execution. Between the impractical texture, muted flavours, and pricing that sits close to far stronger competitors, the appeal remains difficult to justify.
