Bourbon Sharimoni Gumi Cool Mango

This is the Bourbon Sharimoni Gumi Cool Mango, made using mango juice concentrate.

Each gummy was a wavy rectangular shape, measuring approximately 4 × 2.5 × 0.5 cm, with a pale orange hue, a generous coating of sour crystals, and a mellow, sweet mango aroma.

On tasting, the sour coating delivered an immediate tang, followed by a pronounced crunch that contrasted sharply with the unexpectedly soft interior. Rather than the elastic chew typical of gelatin-based gummies, the texture was closer to a marshmallow, airy and yielding. The mango flavour emerged after several chews, initially reading as rich and sweet before building into a bold acidity. A cooling sensation then developed and lingered on the palate, akin to a mint-like freshness without any mint flavour. Towards the finish, a subtle bitterness appeared, likely attributable to the use of mannitol, which pulled the mango profile in a more artificial direction and detracted from overall enjoyment.

Overall, an inventive textural concept with appealing initial impact, but undermined by a lingering bitterness that compromises the clarity and pleasure of the mango flavour.

This Bourbon Sharimoni Gumi Cool Mango contained 57 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2025.
