Potato snacks are some of the best. The crunchiness of thick cut kettle-cooked potato chips is hard to beat, yet the elongated shape of French Fries makes them easier to eat. Calbee Jagariko takes the crunch of the potato chips and moulds it into the elongated shape of a French Fry, to give us the best of both. Jagariko is a portmanteau of jagaimo (a potato in Japanese) and the female name Rikako (a friend of the creator).

Unlike Salad Pretz by Glico Japan, which is nondescript in identifying the type of salad it emulates, Jagariko Salad has the flavour of a carrot and parsley salad.  Admittedly, it’s not the first type of salad that pops into my head, yet it exists and Jagariko Salad is absolutely tasty and addictive.

Jagariko comes in a sealed tub with each stick about the length of a finger and the diameter of a pencil. Even more impressive than identifying the type of salad, not only is each stick speckled green (parsley) and orange (carrot), but there are peppery notes of parsley and mild sweet bitterness of carrots flavouring the potato base. The more you eat, the more pronounced the peppery notes.

It’s easy to eat more – these sticks are super crunchy with every bite.
