Calbee Jagariko Corn Butter

I enjoy the sweet buttery richness of corn and butter together so much that D remains surprised at how much of it I’m willing to eat in one sitting (read: a lot and definitely more than you think). So, I just had to try these limited edition Calbee Jagariko Corn Butter, one of the many twists on the standard salad and cheese flavours.

Each tub is sealed with ~30 sticks around around 7 cm long and 7 mm in diameter and a pale yellow colour flecked with dark green.

These Jagariko have a mellow aroma of sweet corn, which came through prominently in the taste. The initial flavour was sweetness from the corn, which developed with savoury buttery notes as you eat, creating the moreish combination of corn and butter by mid-bite that lingered through to the finish. Indeed, the potato base barely makes its presence known. The overall flavour was a sweet Jagariko that’s balanced well with the buttery savoury notes to avoid falling into candy territory.

This tub of Calbee Jagariko Corn Butter contained 52 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Ōsaka, Japan in 2018.
