Glico Pretz Cultured Butter

Cultured butter finds it origins in small farms using raw cream collected over several days of milking before the invention of refrigeration. The cream would sour by the time it reached the churn and produce a butter with a lactic aroma and rich flavour. Nowadays, cultured butter is made from cream and starter culture bacteria. This Pretz Cultured Butter uses the European style high-fat cultured butter.

Each box contained two pale yellow bags.

Each box contained two bags each containing ~21 biscuit sticks. Each biscuit stick is made with 6% cultured butter with an extra layer of lightered coloured, sweet cultured butter on the top of each piece.

The Pretz have an exceptionally rich butter aroma with a gentle tang. Upon tasting, a rich, savoury butter flavour came through at the head of each bite with the same gentle tang and a prominent creaminess followed by a mellow sweetness as the additional layer of cultured butter melts before  pleasant, creamy and nutty notes recalling hazelnut emerge ahead of a clean finish. Despite the clean finish, the rich body of these Pretz is almost overwhelming half way through each bag, so they’re best shared.

This Pretz Cultured Butter contained 60 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Saitama, Japan in 2018.
