Kirin Gogo no Kōcha Delicious No Sugar Milk Tea

This is the Kirin Gogo no Kōcha Delicious No Sugar Milk Tea. It used a blend of 10% Darjeeling tea leaves and 10% Uva tea leaves, providing a clean aftertaste. This contrasts with the original, which used 20% Candy tea leaves for their rich aroma.

The beverage had an opaque tan hue with a fruity black tea aroma. When consumed, the absence of sugar gave it a thinner mouthfeel compared to the original milk tea, noticeable from the start of each sip. After adjusting our expectations, the combination of Darjeeling and Uva black tea leaves delivered a smooth and fruity tea flavour with a medium body, complementing the lighter mouthfeel of this unsweetened milk tea. The lighter flavour here allowed the dairy notes in the milk to come through more prominently, becoming evident mid-sip and lingering into the finish, followed by a minor astringency in the aftertaste. Overall, this unsweetened milk tea was similar to Ito En Tully’s Coffee Smooth Latte Less Sweet. While slightly richer in flavour, it was clear we preferred our milk teas sweetened.

This Kirin Gogo no Kōcha Delicious No Sugar Milk Tea contained 500 mL. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2024.
