This is the Morinaga Hi-Chew Premium Hokkaidō Melon. Within their premium range, Hi-Chew employed ‘premium’ ingredients and encased a chewy filling with a soft candy coating. In this version, the melon flavour derived from the juice of Hokkaidō Prefecture’s melons, renowned throughout Japan for their nectar-like sweetness and succulent, top-tier flesh.

Each piece was 1.5 cm in diameter with a pastel orange coating. Upon tasting, the thin candy shell imparted a refreshing initial cool sensation, soon yielding to the delightful aroma of Hokkaidō melon that gracefully enveloped the palate as we approached the taffy core. The gummy centre, sporting a similar opaque pastel orange hue, revealed the succulent texture of ripe melon upon each subsequent bite. With every chew, the melon’s juicy essence intensified, faithfully capturing and reflecting the fruit’s natural flavour at its peak ripeness. While the outer coating provided a crisp contrast, the interior maintained the characteristic chewiness typically associated with hi-Chew candies, delivering a satisfying mouthfeel that unlocked a burst of flavour. The vibrant melon taste and enjoyable texture rendered these candies worthy of repurchase.
