Nespresso Barista Creations Freddo Delicato

In time for the 2021-2022 summer, this Nespresso Barista Creations Freddo Delicato was part of a limited edition designed to be enjoyed over ice.

The coffee was a medium-light split-roasted blend of roast of Kenyan Arabicas and longer-toasted Indonesian Java coffee. It didn’t have the usual intensity rating and came in a light blue geometric patterned capsule. The iced coffee was prepared by adding 90 go of ice cubes to a glass, extracting 40 ml of coffee on top of the ice, and then adding 90 mL of either milk or water.

Prepared with water, a distinct fruity acidity emerged at the head of each sip and developed with the slightest hint of bitterness towards the finish, to draw out a citrus quality that was surprising yet well suited to an iced coffee. The overall flavour was rounded and refreshing.

Prepared with milk, the coffee took on an even smoother mouthfeel with rich toffee caramel notes rounding out the body ahead of a sweet biscuit finish. The fruity acidity present when prepared with just water, was masked by the milk, creating a light coffee with an incredibly smooth and rounded flavour that reminded us of an iced Nespresso Barista Creations Chiaro, a coffee that was designed to be prepared with milk.

Overall, we enjoyed the balanced fruity notes of this black iced coffee as well as the toffee caramel notes when prepared with milk. It was a limited edition but we hope it stays.

This Nespresso Barista Creations Freddo Delicato contained 10 x 4.8 g capsules. It was produced in Switzerland and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2022.
