This is the Nespresso Master Origins 2021 La Cumplida Refinada. A limited edition, this was a collaboration between Nespresso and the La Cumplida farmers from Nicaragua to refine the time and temperature in the dry fermentation process and create the smooth candied cherry and pomegranate notes of this coffee.

It was a single-origin Nicaraguan coffee roasted using a short 85 dark/15 darker split roast technique. It had an intensity of 5 out of 13 and comes in a silver capsule with its name in red.

The expresso was a semi-opaque dark brown colour with a deep candied fruit aroma. Served as a long black, an initial acidity of wild fruity notes developed in intensity into the body where it was buoyed by a gentle roasted bitterness to give the coffee a medium body. The acidity dominated the finish before a long, lingering roasted aftertaste. The fruity profile of this coffee was surprising with a complexity that recalled candied cherries and pomegranate. While I’m not a fan of acidic coffees, the uniqueness of this coffee was intriguing.

This Nespresso Master Origins 2021 La Cumplida Refinada contained 10 x 5.5 g. capsules. It was produced in Switzerland and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2021.
