This Nestlé KitKat Sakura Masamune Daiginjo Nihonshu is a Kansai-limited collaboration between Nestlé and Sakura Masamune, one of Japan’s oldest sake brewers founded in the town of Miki in the Yokawa district of Hyogo Prefecture in 1625.

Daiginjo is one of the highest-quality classifications of sake, which uses rice grains that have been milled down by at least 50% so that only the most flavourful part of the core becomes part of the sake brew. A bottle of Sakura Masamune’s daiginjo sake can retail for as much as ¥20,000 or $180.00) a bottle.

Each mini-bar is an off white colour and contained a powdered form of Sakura Masamune’s daiginjo sake flavouring the cream sandwiching the wafers that are enrobed in white chocolate.

The KitKat has a bright sake fragrance, while on tasting, the sweetness of the white chocolate came through before the aromatic sake notes develop in the body as the chocolate melts and returns in the finish before a clean aftertaste. The flavour of the sake is refined and immensely enjoyable with a more prominent sweetness and rounder mouthfeel than the crisp dryness of the Nestlé KitKat Masuizumi Sake.

This Nestlé KitKat Sakura Masamune Daiginjo Nihonshu contained 12 mini bars. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Tōkyō, Japan in 2019.
