Ramune has a distinctive Codd-neck bottle design so it’s always novel to see it being sold in normal screw cap bottles. And this here is Sangaria Ramu Bottle whose packaging makes no mistake that it’s the same traditional ramune in a different container.

The soft drink was a transparent and clear with the signature ramune lemon nose and light to moderate carbonation. Served chilled, it tastes like a lightly carbonated ramune with a pleasant sweetness in the head of each sip before the distinct ramune lemon flavour developed in the body, leaving a sweet citrus aftertaste. It lacked – and I miss – the intense carbonation of Codd-neck bottled ramune that sends my tongue tingling from the start to the end of each sip and refreshingly cleanses the palate between sips. Without it, it’s a rather pedestrian Japanese-style lemonade somewhat reminiscent of Mitsuya Cider, which is tasty but not what I’m after.

This Sangaria Ramu Bottle contained 500 ml. It was bottled in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2017.
