We picked up this T2 Hōjicha Bancha just as it was discontinued at the end of 2018.

The tea is a looseleaf hōjicha made from roasting second flush sencha.

Steeping 5 g of looseleaf in 200 mL of water at 95ºC, the infusion was a clear red brown colour with a minimal tea dust and a toasty aroma of organic straw. Served hot, toasted notes came through before a mellow sweetness developed mid sip with earthy straw notes into the finish before leaving a clean aftertaste. Overall, the hōjicha is decent enough for drinking every day but does lack the depth and complexity of many of the hōjicha from Japanese tea houses including, Yamashiro Uji Tea First Harvest Hōjicha, Uji no Tsuyu Kōbashi Hōjicha and Iyemon Cha Irigome Blend Houjicha.

This T2 Hōjicha Bancha contained 100 g. It was packed in Germany from imported ingredients and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2018.
