KK Bakery, Cabramatta

KK Bakery is tucked away in one of the many alleyways branching off John Street in Cabramatta.

Having wandered down this alley one week, we recalled a recommendation for the bánh tiêu from KK Bakery.

Bánh tiêu ($2.00) — a Vietnamese doughnut.

This was served unexpectedly hot and turned out to be an absolute delight. Its golden brown exterior, coated in sesame seeds, gave way to a pillowy soft, springy interior with a wonderfully chewy texture—reminiscent of the best leavened yeast doughnuts. The flavour was subtly sweet, with a hint of savoury depth from five spice and a pleasant nuttiness from the crunchy sesame seeds. The warmth, texture, and balance of flavours made this a bánh tiêu worth returning for

Cháo Quẩy ($2.00) — a Vietnamese fried breadstick.

This was overly dry and dense, lacking the expected crisp exterior. While it was surprisingly not greasy, it also had little flavour, not even a basic savoury saltiness. It was not worth purchasing.

KK Bakery is located at 2/85 John St, Cabramatta NSW 2166.
