Simmone Logue Gourmet Sausage Rolls

This is the Simmone Logue Gourmet Sausage Rolls, featuring beef and pork mince (38%) with carrot, onion, celery and roasted garlic, wrapped in puff pastry and finished with an egg glaze and poppy seeds.

Heated in an air fryer at 180ºC for 14 minutes, the sausage rolls presented with a deeply golden puff pastry exterior, scattered with poppy seeds. The pastry appeared well laminated, with a lightly blistered surface. Aroma opened with rich savoury notes of roasted garlic and oregano, supported by a subtle sweetness from the vegetables.

Initial contact delivered a crisp, flaky, buttery pastry that shattered cleanly before yielding to the generously filled interior. The mince mixture was relatively loose, creating a moist, tender mouthfeel that contrasted well with the crisp pastry layers.

Through the mid-palate, the beef and pork developed into a rounded savoury profile, while finely diced carrot, onion and celery introduced subtle sweetness and gentle textural variation. Roasted garlic and oregano remained well integrated throughout, complemented by a pronounced sun-dried tomato flavour that added both richness and a sweet, concentrated depth. The filling’s distinctive red-orange hue reflected this tomato component without overpowering the meat.

Towards the finish, the buttery pastry and herb-seasoned filling resolved into a balanced savoury aftertaste, with the garlic, oregano and sun-dried tomato lingering longest. The pastry retained its flaky structure throughout, while the moist filling prevented the overall texture from becoming dry.

Overall, a sausage roll with a layered flavour progression and complementary structural contrast, resulting in a well-balanced filling supported by crisp, buttery pastry.
