This is the Nippon Yell Dried Fruit Wakayama Sumomo, featuring dried and candied Japanese plums grown in Wakayama Prefecture.

Each piece measured approximately 2 x 1 x 0.8 cm, with a dark orange to brown hue and a soft, plummy aroma. The surface was dry and smooth to touch, and coated in a fine sugar coating.

The initial bite offered a cool, sweet sensation from the sugar coating, which quickly gave way to a pleasantly chewy texture. As the sugar dissolved, the distinct plum flavour emerged, starting with a tangy sweetness before transitioning to a richer, tarter profile as the plum skin came through. This flavour progression evoked the experience of eating a fresh plum, from its sweet flesh to its tangy skin. Small, semi-firm pieces of the plum provided a delightful crunch in the finish. Overall, these dried and candied plums delivered a satisfying combination of candied sweetness and natural plum tartness, making it an enjoyable treat that we would gladly repurchase.
