Inspired by a British favourite, these Smith’s Prawn Cocktail was purchased at Aldi shelves in early June this year.

A strong tomato aroma emerged on opening the bag that recalled the Smith’s Heinz Tomato Ketchup, which had us confused initially. On eating, though, the tomato aroma came through as a tartness that recalled lemon and mayonnaise. The acidity dominates the flavour into the body before the notes of prawn emerge subtly in towards the end and develop to prominence in the finish and linger in the aftertaste. The chips have visible seasoning, so we’re a little disappointed at the mildness of the prawn flavour, which we’d hoped would be prominent as in Asian prawn crackers.
This Smith’s Prawn Cocktail contained 150 g. It was produced in Australia and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2018.
