This is Woongjim Achim Haetsal, or morning rice. It’s a well-known Korean soft drink made from white, brown and black rice grown exclusively in Korea.

The drink was an opaque off-white cream colour with a sweet nutty aroma and mild carbonation. Served chilled, the same nutty notes came through with a mellow sweetness that distinctly recalled sweetened almond milk or vanilla cream wafers. The light carbonation cleanses the sweetness between sips, while the nuttiness lingered long in the aftertaste. Overall, this is a very gentle drink that’s easy on the palate and enjoyable much like sweetened teas but lacked the thirst-quenching qualities of more mainstream Western soft drinks like cola.
This Woongjin Achim Haetsal contained 1.5L. It was produced in South Korea and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2020.
