Meiji Tsujiri Matcha Latte

This is the Meiji Tsujiri Matcha Latte, made in collaboration with Kyōto tea house Tsujiri.

The beverage had a pastel green hue and presented a creamy, smooth mouthfeel. From the outset, a pronounced sweetness dominated the flavour, persisting through to the finish with a syrupy, cloying quality more akin to refined sugar than the nuanced depth of something like kuromitsu. Sugar, listed as the first ingredient, was unmistakably central. The tea character was largely muted, emerging faintly toward the finish, lingering in the aftertaste, but lacking the fresh, grassy richness or umami depth typical of a quality matcha. Instead, the overall profile resembled sweetened milk with minimal tea complexity. A disappointing execution.

This Meiji Tsujiri Matcha Latte contained 200 mL. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2025.
