Daniel’s Donuts has built a strong following for its indulgent offerings, expanding from a single store in Melbourne to over 50 locations across Victoria. Opening in Sydney in mid-April 2025, the brand brought its signature doughnuts—including vegan and gluten-free options—alongside barista-made coffees, pies, shakes and cookies.

Chocolate Boston Custard ($3.90).

This doughnut was the standout. The thick, glossy dark chocolate ganache delivered rich intensity, balanced by a mellow, creamy custard filling that provided a smooth counterpoint. The doughnut itself was tender with a slightly doughy texture—substantial without being heavy—which helped layer the experience. A well-composed combination of texture and flavour.

Pineapple Donut ($4.90)

A personal nostalgic favourite, and this version lived up to memory. The glaze had a bold pineapple flavour—tangy, tropical, and sweet with just enough acidity to cut through the doughiness of the base. Bright, cheerful, and confidently executed.

Apple Custard Donut ($4.90)

Filled with lightly spiced cinnamon custard and apple pieces, then topped with apple jam. The jam’s tartness lifted the sweetness of the custard and provided a welcome contrast. While the custard was smooth and restrained, the jam’s acidity was key to keeping the doughnut from feeling too heavy. Balanced and satisfying.

Honeycomb Delight ($4.90)

Released for Easter, this featured a honeycomb custard, honeycomb white chocolate icing, whipped cream, and a decorative white chocolate chick. The filling was sweet and creamy with a pleasing honeycomb flavour, but the sweetness of the white chocolate coating, combined with the density of the doughnut, pushed this one a little too far. Best suited for those with a high tolerance for sugar.

Daniel’s Donuts delivers on nostalgic appeal with a bold, modern range. While some flavours skew sweet, others show restraint and thoughtful layering. It’s worth a return visit, particularly to try options like the Black Forest that is not yet available in Sydney.
