This is the Tenkū no Hōjicha Latte with Warabimochi ($11.80, fixed sweetness, fixed ice) from Kamakura Warabimochi. It features Tenkū no Hōjicha by Oyaizu Seicha from Shizuoka Prefecture, made using high-quality tencha leaves grown under shade to enhance flavour and roasted using a unique high-heat method.
The beverage was visually striking, with dark brown warabimochi at the base, a middle layer of white milk, and a top layer of dark hōjicha. Consumed chilled and stirred, the finely ground hōjicha delivered a deeply roasted flavour with a mellow, chocolate-like undertone, creating a fragrant and smooth drinking experience. The latte was unsweetened, relying on the warabimochi for sweetness, which provided an ideal balance when mixed, alongside a melt-in-the-mouth texture. Even as the ice melted (only four cubes), the drink retained its richness, maintaining its smooth, subtly sweet, and roasted flavour profile.
This was an impeccable and well-crafted beverage, and certainly worth repurchasing
