This is Jin’s Grilled Meat Pie, a shop in Eastwood that opened in 2022 and specialises in grilled meat pies inspired by a snack from Zhejiang province in eastern China.

Grilled Pork Meat Pie (Mild) ($13.50 for 5 pieces).

Each batch of pies is cooked in a tandoor-style oven, sealing in the juices and preserving the freshness of the minced pork filling. Each pie measured around 6 cm in diameter, with an exceptionally thin, crisp pastry that carried a subtle smoky aroma enhanced by the black sesame seeds on top. The filling was juicy and savoury, with a gentle sweetness from the spring onions. While labelled “mild,” there was no discernible heat, so the spicy version would likely offer a better balance.

Overall, a flavourful and well-crafted take on the Zhejiang-style meat pie, notable for its crisp pastry and succulent filling. Would return to try the spicy variation and explore the rest of the menu.
