F & L Gourmet, Macquarie Park

F & L Gourmet in Macquarie Centre has a constant stream of customers so we headed here when our original plans for some low key Chinese food at nearby Eastwood fell through due to a major festival falling on that weekend.

Cups of hot tea greet customers as they’re seated. The tea is watery, but we appreciate the hydration.

This is the BBQ Combination (Two Choices) with Rice ($15.50, +$0.40 for hot drink as a combo set) with roast pork and roast duck. We enjoyed the juiciness of the roast pork along with its thin and crispy skin. The roast duck was rather anorexic, alas.

This is the 3 Treasure Rice ($15.50, +$0.40 for hot drink as a combo set) with pork sausage, BBQ pork, soya sauce chicken and salted duck egg. The pork sausage was new to us, yet thoroughly enjoyable for its juiciness and flavour as was the BBQ pork. The soya sauce chicken were pieces of breast, which suffered from being dry and squeaky as expected.

As part of the combo set, D and I both ordered the Hong Kong Milk Tea to complete our Cantonese meal. This one is made from black tea and evaporated milk. As far as being a quality milk tea, this one hit the spot with a bold tea and milk flavour while being exceptionally smooth, creamy and full-bodied with some frothy residue on the edge of the cup (a sign of high butterfat content). That said, we’re not fans of the flavour or thick mouthfeel even after sweetening with sugar.

Overall, we’re impressed by the serving sizes and authenticity of Cantonese food at F & L Gourmet. We’d return, but stick to the pork BBQ meats or try other items on the menu.
