Artificer Specialty Coffee Bar & Roastery Iced Latte

Coffee, for many, is about caffeine consumption. It is for me, on the rare occasion, although a stiff black tea also does just the trick for a fraction of the price. Consistently good coffees are hard to come by at cafes or at home even with the right equipment. And unlike D, who finds an enjoyable (and frustrating!) hobby in making the perfect coffee, I’ve only a passing interest.

For people who drink coffee less as a means for caffeine consumption but to enjoy it’s flavour, Artificer Specialty Coffee Bar & Roastery is the perfect cafe. The cafe serves no food, only coffee. It’s a fitting menu for the equally minimalist interior fit out of floor-to-ceiling oak with brushed brass accents. There’s a small number of seats, but there’s more room for standing.

If it wasn’t already evident from their name and menu, they take coffee seriously here. The coffee beans are roasted on site in small amounts for freshness. This attention to every step of the process from the raw bean to extracting the coffee could only lead to one result: a seriously good coffee.

The coffee here is front and centre. My iced latte ($3.50) is served with a spherical ice cube, which melt slower and help retain the flavour of the coffee. And indeed, there’s no need to hide – the bitterness or sourness that you spend so long re-adjusting to balance at home? It’s all perfectly balanced here. Sugar can often hide imperfections in coffee, but there was no need for that here at all. It is one seriously good coffee.

Artificer Specialty Coffee Bar & Roastery is a must visit for coffee lovers.
