UHA Mikakutō Shifuku no Momo Gumi is a premium gummy made with juice from Akatsuki peaches grown in Kōri-chō, Fukushima Prefecture—a variety notable for being presented to the Imperial Family since 1994. The packaging was designed by Professor Daisuke Nakayama of Tōhoku University of Art and Design, also recognised as a contemporary artist.
Akatsuki peaches, a Fukushima specialty, are typically harvested in mid-to-late summer and prized for their large size, high sugar content, low acidity, and vibrant fragrance. Their balanced sweetness and firm yet juicy texture make them well-suited for both fresh consumption and processed products, and they are emblematic of the region’s post-disaster agricultural revival.

Each gummy was shaped like a peach, measuring approximately 2 cm in diameter and 1 cm in thickness, with a soft, opaque light orange hue and a mellow peach aroma. The texture was a standout—soft and bouncy with a refined chew, offering satisfying resistance. This was achieved using fish gelatin and low-melting-point collagen to create a gentle, melt-in-the-mouth feel.
On tasting, the flavour of the Akatsuki peach emerged gradually. It began with a subtle sweetness before blooming into a vibrant, juicy stone fruit character, peaking toward the finish with a rich fruitiness and a delicate touch of sourness to evoke the brightness of the fresh fruit. Notably, the sourness was restrained, allowing the inherent sweetness of the peach to take centre stage.
Overall, this was a well-executed product that delivered on both texture and flavour, and would be well worth repurchasing.
