Osulloc Samdayeon Jeju Tangerine

This is the Osulloc Samdayeon Jeju Tangerine.

The tea blend comprised 91% post-fermented tea matured in a cedar barrel, complemented by 4.5% Jeju tangerine peel.

Steeping 3 g of loose-leaf tea in 200 mL of water at 90 ºC for 2 minutes produced a clear red-brown tea with a woody citrus aroma reminiscent of Japanese hinoki. Consumed hot, the cedar notes were immediately evident, bringing aromatic woody forest tones. These were quickly followed by a bright burst of tangerine peel, amplifying the natural citrus notes mid-sip. This flavour developed into a notable bitterness that persisted into the finish, lingering with marked astringency and a slight tingle on the tongue from the citrus oils, evident from the yellow-stained interior of the packaging.

Overall, this tea delivered a clear taste of the cedar barrels in which it matured, accompanied by the refreshing flavour of tangerine. However, its somewhat harsh finish was a drawback. Despite its bold flavour in the initial steep, it was suitable for only single steeping, with subsequent steeps being rather flavourless, offering only a subtle hint of tangerine oils in the finish.

This Osulloc Samdayeon Jeju Tangerine contained 30 g. It was produced in South Korea and purchased in Korea in 2023.
