Yoghurt was always more of a ‘food’ than a ‘flavour’ in my mind until I encountered yoghurt flavoured drinks and candy from Korea and Japan. I’m slowly getting used to the idea and this here is Lotte Yoghurt Jelly.

The packaging resembles a giant bottle of Yakult, the main drawcard for trying something unfamiliar like yoghurt jelly, or more precisely, gummy candy.

Each gummy candy is about 3 cm x 1 cm in size with a dark to pale yellow gradient colour.

The smell of these gummies reminds one of a mix between Yakult or Calpis with a slightly odd hint of plastic. They taste much better than the smell, though, with an initial sweetness from the residue coating the gummy to prevent clumping before the characteristic lactic acid flavour came through mid-bite with just the slightest hint of dairy. The acidity builds towards the end of the bite – more like Yakult than Calpis in that sense – to create an enjoyable lightly sweet and sour yoghurt flavour by the finish that lingered briefly in the aftertaste.

This Lotte Yogurt Jelly contained 50 g. It was produced in South Korea and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2017.
